11.20.20 (special edition)

Welcome to another special edition week, whoo! There is not a guest curator this week but, instead, there is a theme. I recently had the opportunity to attend Adobe Max (virtually, of course). "Adobe MAX is the leading global creativity conference, a uniquely immersive and engaging digital experience. A free event, MAX features live and on-demand content, including more than 350+ sessions, labs, keynotes, musical performances, special guest appearances, and a sneak peek at things being worked on in Adobe labs."

I was able to watch a ton of fascinating sessions ranging from hearing Gail Cummings (Global Digital Design Lead, Ben & Jerry's) speak about virtual photography as a fast emerging viable solution for visual asset creation. Lauren Hom (designer, letterer, and educator) spoke about finding your creative voice and what to do once you found it. Conan O'Brien was even part of the keynote address.

The sessions are currently on demand for free, and I'm still chugging away through some. For now, I want to highlight some of the speakers who participated.

Alivia Fields

“I’m a photographer, wanderer, dreamer, and believer. My passions include avocados, toast, and avocado toast. I’m on a mission to spread light + love…and eat avocados along the way. Slow, intentional living and sustainability are two topics very dear to my heart, and I hope that through my creations you are inspired to be a light in this world.”

Andrea Pippins

“An illustrator and author who has a passion for creating images that reflect what she wants to see in art, media, and design. Her work has been featured in Essence Magazine, The New York Times, and O: The Oprah Magazine. She has worked with brands such as Bloomberg, Broadly, ESPN, The High Line, Lenny Letter, Lincoln Center, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.”

Debi Sementelli

“I’m a typeface designer and lettering artist working out of my home studio in Dallas, Texas. I love playing with ink, paint, pens and brushes to come up with different alphabets that will eventually turn into type designs. During that process I’m always thinking about the people who will use my fonts. I try to create lots of fun alternates for you to use!”

Jappy Agoncillo

“His current style has been described as energetic, colorful, lively, and dynamic. He specializes in Illustration - and all that it can be applied to. His work is a collection of projects ranging from Illustration, Murals, and even painting. Jappy prides himself on wanting to push his capabilities ever-further, always looking for new and exciting ways to grow as an artist and opportunities to learn and master new crafts.”

Josh Dykgraaf

My real passion though is creating things that have an impact on people. All the effort is worth it when I see someone double-take at my work. The buzz I get from that moment can keep me going for days, imagining the viewer reconsidering the limits of the world or just investigating the details of my work.”

Lindsey Rempalski

“I’m a graphic designer and content creator born and raised in Orange County, California. I have a passion for hand lettering, illustration, and vintage clothes. I’m inspired by the creatives in my life, music, and my colorful environment.”

Matthew Vandeputte

“After discovering timelapse photography 9 years ago, I went on to specialise in the 'niche within a niche' called hyperlapse photography. In 2014 the Australian department of immigration granted me a Distinguished Talent PR visa for my work as a hyperlapse photographer. Good stuff.”

Nadine Kolodziey

“Her work is digital, handcut, melted or sometimes made into a walkable environment. In doing so, forms are created in a analogue and digital way - materials such as plastic and pixels are combined.”
